Another great day out with my novice fly-fishing buddy Graham. Lanseria is close enough to Joburg's Northern suburbs that you can get there for sunrise, enjoy some quality trout fishing, have a lekker breakfast, and get back home by midday. Graham, once again, enjoyed some beginner's luck with several decent fish and is really taking to fly fishing. He has even stopped referring to all flies as "Mepps" and now only occasionally looks for the bail arm on his reel. Would gladly recommend this venue for beginners and more experienced fly fishermen alike. - Nicholas

This is a great way to spend time in the outdoors with social distancing. The low season (1 Oct to 14 April) is summer time and we allow bass, bait, specimen carp, and fly fishing. High season (15 April to 31 Sep) is winter trout season and only fly fishing is permitted. We are eco-friendly, promoting catch and release of fish (although trout may be kept and paid for by arrangement). Sport fishing is a fun adventure for individuals, couples, and families.
Fly-fishing is an art and clean (no grubby bait!). It is good exercise but you don’t have a high fitness level.
The fishing equipment is available for hire, however you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Fishing flies or lures can be bought on-site.
We often have fishing monitors on duty to provide guidance on the fishing rules/regulations and to assist with ensuring you have a wonderful experience. They will provide some basic fishing tips but if you want to learn more or have never fishing before then feel free to book one of our group or private fishing lessons.
We believe in keeping the sport environmentally friendly so all fish caught must be released (And we teach guests the proper techniques required for correctly releasing the fish so that they do not get injured). The dams have Trout (Rainbow, Brown, and Golden), Bass, Carp, Kurper, and Catfish.
The fishing is done on the two dams at Lanseria Country Estate. We are open for fishing seven days a week in the low season and often close on Monday during the high season to rest the trout after weekends.

Fly fishing activities and events at all partner venues (including Lanseria Country Estate) are operated and hosted by staff of Sundowner Adventures

The private, group, and corporate day activity should be started at the arranged time and run for the duration of the activity. If the client is delayed and starts the activity later than the arranged time then they can continue with the activity but the time will be shortened. If the Sundowner guides are available, then an arrangement may be made to start the activity at a later time on the same day and guests will enjoy the full duration of the activity. Guides are only available until 17h30.
Fly fishing equipment supplied for the activity will only be available for the course of the event. Should guests like to use equipment after the activity is completed then they must complete a fishing permit/indemnity form and rent a rod as per the regular terms and conditions.
Fly fishing is an outdoor event and we will still run events in windy, cold conditions. We also operate fly fishing in light rain which lends to the adventurous aspect. If cold weather or light rain is expected, then guests are recommended to bring raincoats or warm clothes.
The events will only be canceled in the event of sustained bad weather or dangerous weather conditions.
Bad weather = sustained heavy rain, snow or hail
Dangerous weather = lightning or weather conditions that place guests in bodily danger.
If an event is canceled due to bad or dangerous weather then the client has the option of a full refund or a credit that may be used within six months. Certain venues may have specific terms and conditions in addition to these T&Cs but are still applicable once indemnity forms and booking have been confirmed. No guest may partake in an SFA activity without completing an indemnity and adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
