On Water & In the Air Gauteng Fly-fishing is a fun, clean (no grubby bait!) outdoor adventure in the open air. It is good exercise but you don’t have a high fitness level. The equipment and flies are available for hire, however you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. This is a group activity but we limit the size to a max of 6 people. Experienced guides will patiently teach you the basic skills required for fly fishing and assist with practical fishing guidance. The teaching is done in a fun and easy to understand manner. We adhere to strict COVID protocols with sanitizing of hands, rental fishing equipment, and social distancing. It's outdoors in the open air. Children should ideally be a minimum of 10 years old to join the group lesson. Parents with younger kids are welcome to book a private clinic. We believe in keeping the sport environmentally friendly so all fish caught must be released (And we teach guests the proper techniques required for correctly releasing the fish so that they do not get injured). Guides are only available until 17h30. Fly fishing equipment supplied for the activity will only be available for the course of the event. Should guests like to use equipment after the activity is completed then they must complete a fishing permit/indemnity form and rent a rod as per the regular terms and conditions. Fly fishing is an outdoor event and we will still run events in windy, cold conditions. We also operate fly fishing in light rain which lends to the adventurous aspect. If cold weather or light rain is expected, then guests are recommended to bring raincoats or warm clothes. The events will only be canceled in the event of sustained bad weather or dangerous weather conditions. Bad weather = sustained heavy rain, snow or hail Dangerous weather = lightning or weather conditions that place guests in bodily danger. If an event is canceled due to bad or dangerous weather then the client has the option of a full refund or a credit that may be used within six months. You’ll be collected from one of our city pick-up points and ride with us in our surf van to the beach with the best conditions on the day of your lesson. You’ll chat with your coach and fellow surfers in the van, listen to good music, and enjoy the scenery along the way. You’ll be allocated a good-quality wetsuit and surfboard and taken through the basics on the beach before you hit the waves. After the surf, you’ll have time to grab yourself a takeaway coffee or snack from one of the local beachfront cafes whilst the coach loads the van before returning back to the city. The whole experience from pick-up to drop-off is approx 3.5-4 hours. Where We will pick you up from one of our city pick-up points and take you to surf at Muizenberg OR Big Bay beach depending on the conditions forecast for the day of your booking. Weather We are dependent on wind, swell, and tides and consult reliable online forecasting sites before making our decision to operate. We typically DO NOT cancel because of rain. You're going to get wet anyway. Besides it's the most fun you can have outdoors in the rain! What to Wear Swimsuit and apply sunscreen prior to the lesson. Things to Bring Swimsuit/board shorts, towel, sunscreen (waterproof or zinc), warm sweater, bottle of water, and any emergency medication (epipen, inhaler, etc). We advise that you leave all your valuables at home/accommodation. You may leave your belongings locked in our vehicle during the lesson but please note we can NOT be held liable for any losses/damages. IF STOKED SURF CANCELS: Surfing is a weather-dependent activity. We do not cancel in the event of moderate wind and rain. We will however cancel in the event of galeforce winds or extreme swells. In this instance, you will be offered an alternative date to reschedule your booking. If you are unable to reschedule your booking, we will offer you two options: 1) a voucher to the same value paid valid for 1 year from the date of issue 2) a refund of 95% of the amount paid.
